Wonderful fireworks shot! The lens you asked about is a Nikon 50 mm f/1.8. I am very much a beginner also and just bought my D90 last October! The 50mm was the first additional lens I purchased. It was pretty cheap ($125.00) and I LOVE IT! Now I wish I had sprung for the f/1.4!
Your photos are great!

@Stephanie: Thank you Stephanie! Thanks for the info too...I have to get one of those lenses!! Im not sure which one I will choose just because the f/1.8 is so inexpensive I might have to start with that one. Thanks again!
